Lesson One on Direct Current Power Supply

This blog provides a surface-level explanation of Direct Current and mentions two specific devices:  12 to 24V DC-to-DC converter and the 12V to 6V DC-to-DC converter.

DC stands for direct current. A DC power supply factor is used when a power system requires constant voltage. The direction of the current “flows” in one singular direction. Over long distances, the power can become weak, however.

At the most basic level, the DC-to-DC converter takes voltage from DC source and “converts it” to another level of voltage in a secondary DC device. It can increase or decrease voltage based on the needs of the project. Where does somebody find such technology?  It’s all around you… in automobiles, portable chargers, portable DVD players, etc. Some devices really rely on it. Others use it as a sort of backup. It all depends on the technology within. The experts know it best, and that’s why they often find themselves searching the Internet for a 12 to 24V DC-to-DC converter.

DC-to-DC Converters (12V to 6 V) are commonplace switching devices today. It converts voltage using a storage component. It releases the output voltage at a different level. The storage is done using magnetic field components (inductor, transformers, capacitors, etc.). The conversion can increase OR decrease voltage levels, based on power demands.
